Appointment

This morning I had an appointment to see an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. I thought I was going to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled today but it was not the case. I went in for a consultation and the doctor was a pretty cool guy. I took a sick day because I thought I was going to be out for the day. But that's ok, not wasted because now I have an extra long weekend! The doctor explained the procedure and what I need to know, what to expect. Thankfully, my wisdom teeth are grown out and are above the gumline which means this procedure shouldn't be too difficult. His staff also sent in an estimate to my insurance and we will find out how much they will cover. Hopefully, it will cover at least 80%, this is an expensive surgery! But will be worth it when all 4 of these buggers come out! Now I have the rest of the day to relax because Kay is hanging out with a friend and she may be gone until after dinner :) And I can enjoy my weekend without a swollen face :)

Day After The Grind

Not feeling too bad actually, my legs and my body is holding up pretty good considering I haven't done any real form of intense exercise and I didn't stretch either... that is not good. You must always stretch before doing any strenuous workout ....

maybe it will hit me after lunch?

Grouse Grind

Today right after work, I headed to Grouse Mountain to hike The Grouse Grind with a friend. I had forgotten how difficult this hike is. The first time I did it, I was 25 years old and hitting the gym three times a week, obviously in a little bit better shape than I am now but gosh, now I am aware of how old my body is! The Grind is basically an ongoing stairmaster, most of it is at a 90 degree angle. It was a huge relief and a very wonderful feeling to finally reach the top without collasping or dying on the path. This time, it took me an hour and thirty minutes but the first time, I managed to do it in an hour and ten minutes which I was hoping to beat. Not even close! While hiking The Grind, many people (some my age and many older than I) hiked past me, I felt pretty bad and out of shape but it's amazing to see how many people ask how you are doing. It's courtesy to move yourself over to let the faster hikers pass and many people were asking how I was doing while hiking past me, I must have looked pretty pathetic up there! Apparently last week, some guy had a heart attack on The Grind and he was in great physical condition... a pretty scary thought. My lungs were not holding up too well, it felt very congested and so many darn mosquitos! Yech! I need to remember to bring bug spray up with me. At least, I burned off a zillion calories hiking up there :) I think I will start doing The Grind once a week until the Mountain closes it off for Fall. It's great exercise and it beats Soldiers of Fitness, which I was thinking about joining for the summer but I don't think I can stick to their program. Also in mind is Pole Dancing, sounds and looks like a lot of fun, I hear it's a great cardio workout..... I wonder how sore my body or my legs will be tomorrow morning.....

Day After Playland

I have little bumps all over my arms, hands and some parts of my face because of the sun (being out there much too long yesterday). I also broke out into hives in patches all over my arms. It is not going to be comfortable. I feel the itchy and burning pain in the areas of my hives. I have taken Benadryl and cover my arms with aloe vera but I am wondering now if I should take some Advil to kill the pain.

So Not Comfy....

Playland

Today, I took Kay and her friend V to Playland. Gosh, it was a crazy hot day, temperatures soaring over 30 degrees C this afternoon. The girls wanted to head out there early but V didn't get up until noon which was probably a good thing because I did not want to be there early. Around 1.30ish, we headed over to a restaurant on Hastings (a block from Playland) to eat lunch and to meet up with some friends who were heading over to the park with us. The kids decided to head off one way as the grown up kids went another. I did end up going on a few rides but most of them my stomach could not handle. Especially the ones that go around and around or the upside down rides. I did go on the water ride which was a blast but very wet, see photos. The water ride is a fave. esp. on days like today. Huge line ups, we probably had to wait about 10 minutes to get on it but worth every minute. But wearing jeans is a big no no, yes I am silly, what was I thinking wearing jeans!!??!! Within a couple of hours, we met up with the kids and took a snack break. The girls went off into another direction while we took the two younger ones with us. We stayed at Playland for about 4 1/2 hours which was more than plenty of time, I actually wanted to head out of Playland earlier. I was so dehydrated and going broke! I spent about $100 for today. Glad the day is over.... just waiting for tomorrow and see how bad I am burned or swollen up.

I am allergic to sunscreen (any kind) and I have sun sensitivity which causes these little bumps like microscopic blisters all over my skin. Because I am allergic to sunscreen, I break out into hives whenever I touch it. Yes I am THAT allergic. It sucks because it means I really can't enjoy the beautiful summer months we have here in Vancouver. But I try to enjoy myself while out in the sun which means I go out later in the day for all my outdoor activities. Or I wear a huge hat and sunglasses while out shopping and walking around in the city. Or I just go out and play and try not to worry about it too much. But anytime I go out with a group that slathers on the sunscreen, I cannot avoid not getting any sunscreen on my skin. I guess I'll just have to pop some Benadryl and think lots of happy thoughts.... :)

Walking....

After work, I decided to walk home because it was such a beautiful day, the sun shining and the temperature so warm, 20something degrees. OMG, what was I thinking? It took me 45 minutes to walk from my office to my apartment. I must have burned off a zillion calories!! The Cambie Street Bridge was probably the hardest part and then walking uphill on Cambie street from Broadway to about 16th. It is such a great day for it. I wish I had my camera to take a photo of it. Vancouver is such a beautiful city and how could I live anywhere else? I don't know...

About these photos, I could not "borrow" the photos in their original format, I could only save them from the search page as is. But these photos do not just the actual size of the bridge, it really is much larger and longer than it looks here....

Lunch on a Patio

may cause slight irritation as birds can drop a poop bomb on you and you may lose your appetite.... thank you for reading....

that is all.

Neighborhood Walk

This evening, Robyn and Leo came out for a walk around our neighborhood. We stopped off at the new Blenz on Cambie/17th to pick up an iced Mocha made with real Belgium Chocolate, yum yum! We walked around the neighborhood and around Douglas Park and sat on a bench to catch up. Baby Leo was starting to get hungry and it was getting a little chilly so we headed back over to Robyn's for some tea. Leo is soooo adorable, he makes so many cute faces and grunts when he's not getting any attention. It was such a great time, I really love spending time with those two. Such sweeties!

H2O

I love H2O, they have some really cool bath products. I just purchased a body wash (from their Spa Collection, which I looove) and a scrub for R :)

Since you've been gone.....

4 days ago, R left Vancouver to head back work in Taipei, Taiwan.

Sunday – R's flight was at noon that meant he missed most of Father's Day. But on Saturday, I made him Brunch and we went out to Dem Bones for dinner. In the morning, R almost missed his flight because the alarm did not go off (my fault, I might have subconsciously decided not to turn it on) and we woke up at 10am, the time he was supposed to be at the airport. When we finally made it to the airport, R realized at the check in counter that he had forgotten his wallet! OMG.... I had to fedex the wallet on Monday.

Being Father's Day, I took the other man in my life, my Dad, out for dinner. We went to an All You Can Eat Korean BBQ in Richmond. I see my Dad once every few weeks so we may catch up on each other's lives. This August or September, Dad is thinking about heading back to Hong Kong, he will stay until after Chinese New Year (February). This is probably his last trip, the flights are way too long for him and my aunts drive him nuts.

Monday morning, Kay woke up from a freaky nightmare; she has one each time R leaves town. Anxiety from having her father to not having him around. Kay and I fell asleep a little earlier than our usual time (R messed up our sleeping schedule) but waking up on Monday morning, I still felt very tired and totally wornout. (trying to catch up on 80 hours of sleep!!) At work, I was trying to get back into my routine but it was really hard because I am still in a “vacation” mode. I had a ton of stuff to catch up on. I don't know how some of these guys can take 3 weeks off!! I was gone 7 working days and I have only caught up to my stuff yesterday. Monday night, we sorted headed to bed early but I didn’t really fall asleep right away and we still woke up feeling really tired on Tuesday.

Tuesday – was suppose to go over to Cassie’s for dinner but ended up cancelling last minute. Cassie’s co worker is on vacation and they are short staffed so she ended up staying late. We have postponed this dinner at a later date. I took a nap after dinner, big mistake – didn’t fall asleep until 11ish. I went out to buy Nelly Furtado’s new albumn. I am loving it.

Wednesday – Yipeeee!! First day of summer and also the longest day of the year J We headed out for a bike ride after dinner. From Cambie & 20th (home) to Main & 14th (COBS Bakery for fresh bread) to Cambie & 16th (Safeway for strawberries) back to Cambie & 20th. About an hour worth of riding. It was really nice out and a lot of people were out biking, skateboarding, rollerblading and jogging/running. My friend, Karen, came out for a coffee and we chatted about stuff. I didn’t get home until almost 11 and went to bed around midnight, bad me….

And it's not a wonder why I am yawning and feeling so tired. Waking up around 6am to get my butt ready for work but going to bed at midnight is something I know my body cannot handle, I am not as young as I used to be. I will have to go to bed earlier tonight. Tonight, I am going for a walk around the neighborhood with my very dear friend Robyn and her cute little adorable Leo ..... shouldn't be too long......

West Restaurant on Granville

Tonight, R and I celebrated our Valentine's Day dinner (he missed it because he works overseas in Taipei, Taiwan) at West Restaurant on Granville street. It was an amazing dinner, everything was perfect, the food was divine, the service - impeccable, the setting - sophisticated. I almost felt all grown up ;-) It was quite an expensive meal but worth every penny.

Before dinner, I took R to
Lothantique because I wanted to show him the wonderful bath products they carry. All made in France. He picked up a few items for me, very sweet.

Richmond Night Market

Tonight, we headed over to the Richmond night market because R missed it last year. They sell pretty much the same things every year but it's the point of being there at least once during the summer. I picked up some really great bargains and of course some dragon beard candy :) Yummy!

R's Presents

For Valentine's and upcoming Father's Day, he got some presents... ooooh aah... Louis... pretty
Ta Da! Inside the little pink HR bag was this beautiful leather belt by Hugo Boss. Remember from here?

R is a HUGE SIMPSON fan so whenever Kay and I see some cool memorabilia, we almost always have to pick it up for him. Above is a talking beer can opener.
Homer beer mug and valentine's card I made for him.

Flashing Homer pin.

PRESENTS!!

My new Louie... I LOVE IT... now, I need a matching wallet.... (notice the tag states "made in France", this one came from Taiwan, the Cite line bags available at Holt Renfrew or Hotel Vancouver LV are made in USA, umm... no)My Hello Kitty stuff, yes I am 30 yo and I still love Hello Kitty.

Kay's belated b'day gift.
She was super excited and she played on her new Game Cube for almost 3 hours!

It's nice to have R back for a week and a half. He looks like he really needs a vacation. We are happy and excited to have him here even though he is going to mess up our schedules!! Being on vacation for a week and two days will be good for me as well. No more photocopier, no more scanning and no more data entry, just going to relax. Gosh, how nice it is to say that, I'm on vacation. Yipee!!

Da Vinci Code - the movie

Watched the movie with Jas at The Paramount, downtown tonight. I found this movie to be quite interesting. I love conspiracy theories, very interesting indeed.

Coffee with Malu & Belen

What a beautiful day it turned out to be! Started off cloudy with chances of showers but the cloud blew over and we got sunshine. Yeah! Good thing because Kay and I biked down to Granville Island to meet up with Malu and Belen for coffee. We met at a little coffee shop under the Burrad street bridge and caught up with each other's lives. After coffee, we walked around a little and headed over to the market so I could pick up some basil (I'm making a cream pesto sauce). We didn't stay too long because Malu and Belen had dinner plans so after our walk, we took the kids over to the pond to look at ducks and to catch some photos. It was a really great day!

Hermes

Grand Opening!

The boutique is just beautiful, as expected of course! Inside and outside. At lunch, I strolled through the store and found the most beautiful items. Hermes displays their handbags on a wall behind enclosed glass for you to choose from. You decide on the style, the material, the hardware and they send your custom order to Paris. A Hermes craftsman starts on your order and a year later, viola!, your very own custom designer handbag. What a wonderful concept! I would love to have one but all I received is this little bouquet of flowers as a thank you when I left the store, *sigh* my little piece of Hermes....
